Flyers get Embarrassed by Penguins and Announcers

I’m not even going to use the AP report of this game. The Flyers are simply playing to earn their paychecks now. There are a few guys on this roster who still care about the outcome of the game but I’ve seen Pee-Wee hockey games with more emotion and passion.  It’s a real shame that the guys who do care are stuck on this team right now.

The announcers for this game were as always Flyers haters on NBC. It was nice to have them laugh at the Flyers misfortune and embarrass the franchise the way they were. WORST announcing in the entire league. I would rather have Steve Coates completely hammered on live TV yelling racial slurs and then streak across the ice then listen to another NBC telecast. Way to promote the game you morons.

I’m calling these people out:

Jason Smith – An NHL Captain is one of the highest honors a professional athlete can get. Did you want the “C” because it added another cool little patch on your jersey or did you actually want to lead this team?

Jeff Carter – Mike Richards comes back and you go back to hiding in a corner. Play like you did when he was injured.

Mike Knuble – Please keep taking lazy offensive zone penalties.

Steve Downie – Kindnap Steven’s pet cat and hold it for ransom so you can get back into the lineup. What did you do to not get playing time?

Jarsolov Modry – There is a lamp in my living room that plays a similar style of defense.

Danny Briere – Lead by example. You did it in Buffalo, why can’t you do it here?

Scott Hartnell – You disappeared when Richards went down, now that he is back, why don’t you put a little effort into your game.

Simon Gagne – Thanks for being made of glass.

John Stevens – You will be fired soon. You are a great guy but you have lost this team somewhere this season. You show emotion when your team is down and out of the game instead of doing it the whole time. Good luck with your next coaching job.

It’s embarrassing when the NBC announcers can point out that Stevens had no clue what he was doing with regard to line match-ups. Briere against Malkin? Are you kidding me?

As far as I am concerned, NO ONE played well today. I admire Cote and Richards for showing some emotion and acting like they gave a damn. But it wasn’t enough.

Carter has quieted down considerably since Richards came back. It’s troubling. What I wouldn’t do to have both Richie and Carts play out of their minds at the same time.

Briere and Prospal, after looking quite good against Boston, were invisible the entire game. Umberger going down didn’t help. He’s going to be out two weeks with a sprained knee. Oh, JOY.

I don’t get Upshall being scratched. The announcers said at one point that he was a “late scratch,” but were they suggesting that he may have been injured? I know Stevens was unhappy with Upshall after the one game against Toronto, because of the penalty he took. I think it’s a case of Upshall being on Stevens’ bad side.

And Stevens: I wanted to give him a chance. But he doesn’t have this team anymore. They’re not responding to him and it shows. I believe the players should be held accountable, somewhat, as they’re the ones who are expected to perform and give their best–the will and desire to play has to come from within them. But it’s difficult to do that when the one who is supposed to be coaching this team and leading them in the right direction doesn’t have any clue as to what his team should do.

I’d love to go thru all of these one at a time but I dont have the time right now. Bill you should know as well as anyone that every player has an off night..i think it’s a bit early to start throwing Carter back under the bus…one off game in the last 10 and he’s shrinking back in a corner, wow can we get a little objectivity?

Downie is either still hurt or is not in the condition they’d like him to be. I love Downie..think he’s the kind of player the Flyers need to be succesful but I dont think him dragging around the ice is a good thing for the team…and if he’s not paing attention then he shouldnt be playing..same goes for upshall who people were kind of glad to see leave Nashville for rarely playig to his abilities.

Modry had a tough game but also showed some things very few others on the blueline have puck control and puck moveemnt. Why didn’t you single out Coburnb who had a particularly bad game for a guy being relied upom (if we’re throwing Carter..might as well throw him too)…and what about…

Lasse Kukkonen…he was ont he ice for 4 of Pittsburgh’s 7 goals…he was a completle non-factor who when given a chance in a big game came up as flat as anyone but will no doubt largely escape criticism becaue it’s likely everyone else’s fault.

I found some of the things the NBC announcer had to say pretty telling..especially about Biron who has done little to show himself as a number one or to help this team..he’s been give the reins and has failed to guide the team in the propper direction…your goaltender has to play better hockey in do or die games…

As for Stevens…yeah let’s fire him…and if after 70 games next season we dont have more points and a higher seed lets fire that coach too…at some point you have to stop blaming the coach..simply replacing him season after season gets your team nowhere..just look at the last decade.

They need a new defense and they need to give Nitty a shot.

I never throw in the towel! But I do have a short fuse right now with the team. You know that I will stand behind them until I die, but this season has been really frustrating.

Kukkonen was pretty bad but to be fair, he was paired with the human turn-over machine, Modry ;) Teams know that Modry can be beaten from the outside to the inside now, lets hope that someone can pull him aside and explain that to him.

I don’t want Stevens fired, I want him to fix it, I think he is the coach of this team. I have never called for him to be fired. I have started to yell at him though, lol. He has taken a brand new team that finished in last place last year and has them on the cusp of the playoffs.

The last handful of games will be exciting, they control their destiny.

They need to get him a blueline…
it’s becoming more and more obvious that certain pieces aren’t bringing their A game, Smith specifically and it makes me angry to see guys like Kappanen delivering the quit worrying and start playing speaches when we went out and purchased soo much leadership..I really wish Homer had just turned the team over to the kids at the deadline..it seems like a lot of our ‘vets’ aren’t putting in the effort..I would guess because they know they arent long-term pieces…
